Welcome to the Matriarchy 👑

The Matriarchy is one of the specialized spaces within our rescue where many of our youngest and most vulnerable kittens spend their earliest weeks growing, learning, and discovering the world around them. It's our rescue's version of a maternity ward, classroom, and support group all rolled into one.

Kittens are among the most vulnerable animals we rescue. In outdoor environments, an estimated 75 to 80% don't survive to their first birthday. Their immune systems are still developing, making them especially susceptible to illness. The first few months of life is also a critical window for learning how to interact with people, other animals, and the world around them.

We believe some of the best teachers are other cats, alongside humans with just the right amount of calm chaos.

Every member of the Matriarchy has naturally taken on a unique role. Some teach healthy boundaries and manners. Some spend hours playing with kittens, helping them build confidence and develop important social skills. One has lovingly appointed herself the resident foster mom, grooming, comforting, and nurturing kittens who are still young enough to need one. Their human is responsible for their medical care, daily weight checks, monitoring their growth, feeding, cleaning, gentle handling, socialization, desensitization, and making sure every kitten continues meeting important developmental milestones.

Together, we create an environment where kittens can simply be kittens. Surrounded by patient teachers, consistent routines, and plenty of opportunities to learn through play, they're given the safest and strongest foundation possible before beginning the next chapter of their lives.
